What 2024 has taught the Synapsys team

As we will soon close out the year, the team at Synapsys has been reflecting on what 2024 has taught us. It has been a year of growth, success, challenges and unexpected moments. From learning to embrace the unexpected, to finding joy in small things and appreciating those around us, our team has shared their thoughts on what 2024 has meant to them.

Here’s a collection of our reflections. We hope they inspire you to pause and think about what this year has taught you too.

“For me, 2024 has reaffirmed the fickleness of life. Many people that I knew closely – friends, family, former classmates – died unexpectedly during the year. I have had to constantly remember to live in the present, not sweat the small stuff – or the big stuff for that matter – enjoy the small pleasures of life, stop and smell the roses.”

This year, through my interviews with learners, I found that real value often comes when we give space for the unexpected. I have noticed the people I am working with often shared their most meaningful ideas in more free-flowing conversations, away from rigid frameworks, when they felt comfortable to speak freely. Making room for the unscripted – whether through a pause, a question, or simply listening – can lead to the best insights. “

“Our days are peppered with the unexpected. We know we’ll get stuff from left field, but it’s still often a shock, can knock us. I’m practicing the stoic art of looking at the surprising thing and saying of course it’s unexpected, I expect this. Pop psychology or not, it really helps to relax with stuff. Go the Stoics!”

“2024 has taught me that my doom scrolling of the past 5 or so years must end; too much time wasted on mind-numbing pap!  I’m looking for a replacement phrase and activity; Joy-Gardening, Bucket-Filling, or some other Dalai Lama-esk truth.  I’m re-learning that I have to look inside myself for what I seek.”

“In 2024 I realised Te Tiriti matters – a lot. It’s a done deal that we can’t walk away from on a whim, and it’s also the foundation of our future as a country.”

“2024 has taught me the value of being surrounded by a bunch of amazing humans. Working with so many smart and talented people has been incredibly inspiring. I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the different ways people think, solve problems, and approach challenges. There is always something to learn from those around you, and diversity in thought makes us all stronger.”

Here’s to a year of growth, connection, and new possibilities – see you in 2025!
